Please use hashtag #kimchicookoff on your video or picture posting. We made it easy for this year's contest. You do not need to show us the entire cooking process. Just show us your final dish presentation and brief explanation of your concept.

Terms and conditions

1. Concept
Cooking Challenge: Prepare an original globally inspired dish incorporating Jongga Kimchi into the recipe. Dishes using one of the five Jongga Kimchi products below. The dishes will be judged on creativity, originality, taste, and plate presentation, etc.

Pogi Kimchi (Whole Cabbage Kimchi)

Mat Kimchi( Cut cabbage Kimchi, fish source (anchovy paste) unadded)
Baek Kimchi (White Kimchi)
Chonggak Kimchi (Ponytail radish Kimchi)

Shelf Stable Kimchi


2. General Rules for entry (online entries only)
The focus of this year should specifically state:
• Kimchi in the forefront of the dish (Kimchi must be the main ingredient of the dish)
• Novel, unique, and innovative, Non-traditional uses of Kimchi
• Highlight cuisines other than Asian cuisines

Selected entrants will be invited to submit their recipe through recipe portal in order to standardize the format and archive the recipes in a central location. These entrants may be the finalists, or another round of vetting can be included to select the final participants.

Online entry deadline: 11PM (PDT), Oct.14, 2022


3. Finalists
Finalists must confirm by Oct. 21, 2022, their ability to participate in the final cookoff. Finalists are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event in Napa, CA, and their own accommodations while in Napa if needed. No travel allowances or reimbursements will be made by the event hosts.

Finalists will compete in the Jongga Kimchi Cookoff at The Culinary Institute of America, 500 First Street, Napa, CA 94559(CIA Copia Facility) on Oct. 30th, 2022.

Finalists will recreate their dish for an in-person judging followed by an award ceremony. All in-person activities will meet the appropriate social distancing and safety measures. Finalists will be required to wear masks and face shield during the cooking event.

4. Prizes
1st Place - $6,000.00 
2nd Place - $4,000.00 
3rd Place - $3,000.00 

4th Place - $2,000.00

Jongga Award - $3,000.00

The organization awarding the prize must file a 1099-Misc to report the award to the IRS. So, the entrants required to fill out Form W-9. Form W-8BEN is filed by the Foreign National prize winner to report the prize award and the withholding to the IRS. Finalist who attends the final competition have the responsibility to provide personal information for the IRS Form 1099-Misc(Form W-9), or Form W-8BEN.

 

5. Uniform / Safety Guidelines

Even under the condition of doing Halloween custom, contestants should wear proper and appropriate kitchen attire, including a chef's or cook's jacket or shirt, long pants, and closed-toed non-slip shoes. Hair must be restrained, fingernails trimmed and without polish, per food code guidelines. Either Client or CIA will provide aprons.

 

6. Official Rules

Finalists will prepare completed original unpublished dishes for judges in-person.

The final dish prepared using one of four Jongga Kimchi products will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, taste, and plate presentation, etc. All food preparation must be done on site. No prepared food will be allowed into the competition. Daesang Holdings and CIA will do their best to provide all ingredients based on the finalists recipe. Substitutions may be made in consultation with the finalist.


7. Entry protocols for all fully vaccinated finalists
Finalists, judges, staffs, and attendees will be required to confirm they have received full vaccination 2 weeks prior to traveling, guests will be classified as non - vaccinated travelers by the Ministry of Health upon arrival if the requirements are not met.

8. Written request to sign on Disclaimer
The event hosts and coordinating organizations reserve the right to use any recipes, photographs, or videos taken at the event without expressed written permission of those included. The event hosts and coordinating organizations may use the recipe/photograph/video or any additional submissions provided by the individual user(s) and/or team in publications or other media material produced, used, or contracted by the event hosts and coordinating organizations, including but not limited to social media, brochures, invitations, books, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.

To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using full names or personal information without written approval from the photographed subject, parent, or legal guardian.
Any person attending this Jongga Kimchi Cookoff who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution must alert the photographer(s) and/or the event organizers.

Any person or organization not affiliated with the event hosts and/or coordinating organizations may not use, copy, alter or modify Jongga Kimchi Cookoff photographs, graphics, media, similar reproductions, or recordings without advanced written permissions of an authorized designee.
